ConsumerScope - In the Palm of Their Hands
Are people really using their PDA or is it just a novelty item? Make no mistake about it, current PDA owners are not letting their devices sit idle. These are not items bought for their novelty and then put aside. Ninety percent of owners use their PDAs at least once a week, with 60 percent using it "every day." In addition, 81 percent said they actually carry their PDAs with them "all or most of the time." It's no wonder why so many are carrying the product with them; 82 percent say they utilize their PDA for both personal and business reasons.
Although owners are using their PDAs on a regular basis, they are mainly using them to replace their paper address books, organizers and electronic calculators. Games, e-mail and anti-virus software are used by only about half of those who have the feature. Other features are used by even fewer. Thus, while there are some who use their PDAs for more than just an electronic organizer, they are the minority.
Once again games are the only feature with an age-based difference in usage. While 59 percent of 18 to 34 year olds play games at least once a week, the figure drops to 50 percent in the 35 to 54 category and 42 percent among those 55 and up.
