Consumerscope - Who Wants Digital Radio?
By Todd Thibodeaux
Digital radio has been in developmental stages for many years, and much has changed in that time (remember the lessons of Iridium). What is digital radio you ask? Digital radio promises to deliver your favorite AM and FM programming with the crystal clear clarity of a CD. Much like digital TV is doing with video content, digital radio will do the same for audio programming.
Two types of delivery systems have been in different stages of development, testing, debate and deployment. The first transmits a digital signal over the air like the radio you know and love. The second is broadcast from a satellite like DBS. Digital radio also holds the promise of being able to submit continuous information like stock quotes.
