Contacts: Andrew Sevin, Principle, Enhanced Home (Port Chester, NY)
“I’ve done 118 jobs in the last four and a half years,” says Andrew Sevin, founder of a home automation retail business called Enhanced Home in Port Chester, NY, “and if I told you one was the same as the next, I’d be lying. This is the real custom end of the business.” For Sevin, who’s background is in software and web development rather than retail, what “custom end” really means is “front end.”
Sevin and partner Al Patel have crafted a business model that requires them to use all their past consultative skills to make sales while home building or home renovation projects are in the early stages. “Our showroom is really a secondary environment for the architects and designers,” he says. “We have drafting tables. We have a conference table with drop down lights. It’s our version of a workroom for them.
A place where people can come and learn about integration, audio/video, water sensors...we are not short of ideas!”
