Contacts: Damon Brown, author of The Pocket Idiot’s Guide to The iPhone
Retailers looking for ways to profit from iPhone hoopla, not to mention the iPod holiday season (new models are rumored), might do well to spend a few minutes with an author who specializes in making tech accessible to American consumers. Damon Brown, who penned the just-released The Pocket Idiot’s Guide to The iPhone, says CE dealers should think broadly about ways to accessorize Apple’s latest hot products.
“Of course there are cases, speakers and bluetooth headphones,” says Brown, “but the iPhone is also a wireless device, so there might be a boost in sales of wireless routers for the home.” Brown says iPhone users who have been frustrated by the speed of AT&T’s EDGE network are looking for any opportunities to let their iPhone hop over to WiFi for internet access.
Brown has been less than impressed so far with the accessories he’s seen since the iPhone made its summer debut five weeks ago. “Nothing mindblowing...I don’t think the cool stuff has come yet. I’m a big karaoke lover and I think an iKaraoke device for the phone would be perfect!”
