Contacts: Ed Moreau, President, Creative Sound and Integration (Scottsdale, Ari.)
Straight out of high school, and a few years before the link between “geek” and “cool” had been widely acknowledged, a techie named Ed Moreau took a part-time job at “a start-up company” in Northern Illinois...a little chain called Best Buy.
“They’d opened a test store, a non-commissioned box-style, in Rockford, IL,” says Moreau. “I was a ‘product specialist’, their word for salesperson.” That was 1990. Moreau says he spent the next decade quenching his insatiable interest in every CE category, working his way up to management positions at Best Buy stores around the country.
In 1993, seeking to settle in a warm climate, Moreau requested a transfer to Phoenix to help open a new store there. He stayed with the company for another two years before becoming a sales rep for a local electronics distributor at the time, CSD, and then working for a number of custom CE installation companies. Moreau was more than thoroughly trained at that point, and he’d had a long stretch working for other people. By 2001, he was ready to start his own operation, a custom outfit called Creative Sound and Integration. Paradise Valley, an affluent suburburban area of Phoenix, has proved the perfect market for Moreau’s business, and he’s charted year-over-year growth, building his company to 3.4 million in sales last year and a staff of 18.
