How do you keep your sales floor fresh just a year after adding a “lounge” complete with play areas for kids and free beverages? If you’re Kurt Seelig, owner of Cardinal Camera in Lansdale, PA, you build another lounge. “I’m thinking about putting in 2 large-screen plasmas, one for store promos and the other for kids’ DVD’s,” says the second-generation retailer, who will introduce another lounge-area in his store this month.
“We’re calling the new one the ‘creative lounge,’” he says. “It’ll be a place where people can spend time making photobooks, greeting cards, scrapbooks, collage posters or framed collage prints. We want people to stay 30 minutes or more.”
Seelig says Lego tables, free coffee and tea, comfortable seating, and self-serve touch-screen work stations are all part of his new formula for service.
