Contacts: Luke Doulas, Managing Director of Custom Sales and Design, Sixth Avenue Electronics (NY and NJ)
Days away from the grand opening of the 11th Sixth Avenue Electronics store (this one in Commack, NY) Luke Doulas is a manager with at least four jobs. Part merchandiser, part party-planner, part sales-trainer and part bouncer, Doulas is doing his best to politely shoo away premature customers while his retail team puts the finishing touches on the company’s second Long Island venue.
“We expect to have lines of customers, especially the first couple days,” says Doulas, who normally oversees Sixth Avenue’s custom sales and design operations throughout New York and New Jersey, but is concentrating on the opening this week. “We like to have only 30-50 people in the store at a time...but we’ll try to keep the waiting customers busy at the door with coffee and freebies.”
Doulas says he’s expecting flat panels to be the most popular product category at the new store, much as they have been at the Carle Place, NY, location which opened last November. He’s intent on making sure the new store does at least 10% of its sales in accessories, from $100 cables to higher-priced A/V furniture, all of which typically have double-or-better profit margins than the TV’s themselves.
