Nearly three months ago now, Nicole Bogatitus hosted an opening-night party in the heart of Greenwich village which was flooded with creative, under-30 enthusiasts. It wasn't theater or alt rock which drew the "youngs," but, remarkably, film cameras...and film prints too.
Bogatitus is the store manager for a new direct retail presence in the U.S., an outpost of the Vienna-based Lomography Society. Known among photographers as "Lomo" (www.lomography.com), the company manufactures and distributes vintage-looking "toy" film cameras like the Diana, which gained a renewed following among Millennials after it was included in Urban Outfitters' product mix.
Though the Lomography Gallery Store will sell a full range of film camera supplies and books, Bogatitus sees herself as someone who is creating a new community in New York, not just a new retail operation. DEALERSCOPE caught up with her to hear more about her vision:
