Contacts: Retailers Selling CE with a Twist of Innovation
Tom Galanis (Vice President of Operations) and Mike Temiz (President), Sixth Avenue Electronics, Springfield, NJ
For over two decades now, a family of first-generation immigrants has steadily built one of the country’s most profitable regional electronics chain stores, Sixth Avenue Electronics, now based in Springfield, NJ. 6th Ave Electronics City, which started on its namesake in Manhattan between 38th and 39th Streets back in 1982, and 6thave.com, the company’s website which accounts for about 10% of its business right now, is run by brothers Billy and Mike Temiz, assisted by their long-time Vice President of Operations Tom Galanis, also a first-generation immigrant.
The Temiz brothers, who are Armenian, and Galanis, who came over from Greece, say their ability to stay open and continue to expand (their tenth store will open on Long Island this fall) has developed from a philosophy they learned growing up in Turkey and Greece, values like supporting the families of their employees and constantly staying adaptable in a changing culture. That “Old World” philosophy, they say, actually has a modern and very practical application in the consumer electronics industry.
