Contrary to Reports, Kmart - and Warner- Stay Format-Neutral
Kmart was widely reported last week to have chosen HD DVD in the high-def disc format war. But apparently, those reporters jumped the gun. The retail chain issued a statement late last week, attributed to company vice president Jonathan Magasanik, that Kmart will in fact remain format-neutral.
“There have been numerous statements in the media today, attributed to Toshiba, indicating exclusive support for the HD DVD format in Kmart stores,” the statement said. “These statements are false. Kmart intends to support both the HD DVD and Blu-ray platforms, and has no plans to support either platform exclusively.”
And speaking of executives claiming to have been misquoted about format-war shifts, Warner Bros. said Monday that comments last week by a company executive had been “misquoted and misconstrued,” the Web site HighDefDigest.com reported.
