Court Finds For Best Buy, Circuit City, Others in Gift Card Patent Case
Best Buy and Circuit City, along with several other U.S. retailers, earned a legal victory Monday when a court found that the retailers did not infringe on patents related to gift card technology.
According to Reuters, The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington affirmed an earlier ruling, from the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, that patents controlled by Realsource had not been infringed by the retailers. In addition to Best Buy and Circuit City, the affected retailers included Costco, Lowe’s, Seattle’s Best Coffee, Starbucks and Williams Sonoma.
