Court: Vonage Must Pay More
The Internet phone company must pay nearly $40 million more than originally planned to settle its patent litigation with Verizon, a U.S. Court of Appeals panel ruled Thursday, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
After the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington ruled that the case would not be reheard, Vonage was ordered to pay $119 million to settle, as opposed to the lower amount of $80 million.
In recent months, Vonage has settled separate patent litigation with AT&T and Sprint as well as Verizon. According to the terms of the Verizon settlement, Vonage would have to pay either the higher or lower amount, depending on the outcome of the Federal Circuit appeal.
