Highlights From 2011 CEDIA Expo
CEDIA Expo pulled in almost 1,800 attendees and 443 exhibitors (including 450 new attendees and 85 first-time vendors) as it headed back to Indianapolis last month. Out of the 100 CEDIA University courses and the 150 manufacturer product-training seminars, the most popular themes focused on home networking, content delivery and emerging technologies.
Although the industry faces its challenges, there are still about 11,000 custom retailers and AV integrators in the U.S., with average gross revenue of about $1.6 million, according to CEDIA's "Size and Scope of the Residential Electronic Systems Market in the U.S.," a report that's due in Q4. Broken down, the numbers reveal there are about 3,000 security/alarm systems companies in the CEDIA channel, about 2,500 home network/IT, and about 2,000 electrical contractors.
The report is CEDIA's first comprehensive data collection initiative. The project began in earnest last May as a result of the lack of information available to the custom channel, including how the channel is represented in the larger residential electronic systems market and trends that should be tracked.
