Hollywood Eyes Crazy Eddie Movie
One of the most notorious figures in the history of the CE industry is heading to the big screen. A group of filmmakers led by Danny DeVito have announced plans to produce a biopic of retailer Eddie Antar, who founded the "Crazy Eddie" chain and later went to prison.
According to Variety, DeVito is set to direct the film, based on a screenplay by Peter Steinfeld; the filmmakers have secured Antar's life rights. There is no word on casting of the movie.
Antar, who founded the 43-store chain on the East Coast in the 1970s and produced iconic TV commercials, did a six-year prison stretch and paid $150 million in fines after he was caught skimming money and falsifying inventory.
