Foot traffic is never an issue for DataVision on Fifth Avenue in New York City, where 11,000 people are guaranteed to walk by each hour, amounting to about 2,500 walk-ins each day.
The retailer started in 1993 and parlayed its in-your-face computer store in one of the busiest neighborhoods in Manhattan into a thriving consumer electronics and custom installation store. In March, after attracting 50 additional CE manufacturers to a merchandise fold that previously offered a much narrower selection, DataVision cut the ribbon on a 12,000-foot upper-level space devoted to home theater demos and custom installation.
Home Theater Expo @ DataVision proved an irresistible proposition to tier-one TV suppliers and other prominent CE companies for more reasons than just location. “It was a no-brainer for them,” said CEO Jimmy Garson. “A lot of home theater stores are afraid of convergence, but because of our expertise on the PC end, we have an advantage.”
