Sales of PCs in the worldwide rose last quarter despite the economic slowdown the U.S., while Dell maintained its lead in U.S. market share. That’s according to a pair of studies released Thursday by IDC and Gartner Inc., as cited by the Associated Press.
The studies showed that global P.C. shipments jumped 14.6 percent in the first quarter, even though U.S. sales only rose 3 percent, according to IDC. Gartner had the global growth number at 12.3 percent.
As for market share, the two firms differed on exact numbers, but both had Dell first in the U.S., followed by HP, Acer, Inc., and Apple. Apple, however, grew the most, with IDC placing its U.S. shipment growth at 25.1 percent and Gartner placing it even higher, at 32.5 percent.
