Dealer Data: LCD Shipments Passed CRT For First Time in ‘07
Global shipments of LCD panels passed those of traditional tube televisions for the first time in 2007, as LCD reached a full 47 percent of the worldwide market. That’s according to numbers released by DisplaySearch this week.
The survey also found that worldwide revenues from TV sales reached a total of $33 billion for the fourth quarter of 2007 and over $100 billion for the full year, both new records.
LCD unit share grew in every region of the world, including by 78 percent in North America. It has replaced smaller CRT TVs all over the world, and has also begun to make share gains on larger-size TVs, versus plasma and rear-projection televisions.
