Dealer Data: LCD Shipments in Q3
Third shipment data for LCD is in. DisplaySearch reported recently on the Q3’06 worldwide shipments of 10 inches and larger TFT LCD modules. Turns out the shipments rose 21 percent Q/Q and 29 percent Y/Y to 77.4 million units. This, according to the research firm, gave revenues the chance to rise 14 percent Q/Q and 9 percent Y/Y, even though the average selling prices continue to drop, for both the panels and the products, such as laptop computers, though they are slowing. Stated in release from the company: “After falling at double-digit rates sequentially in both Q1’06 and Q2’06, blended monitor and notebook price reductions slowed to 3 percent and 7 percent respectively as stronger seasonal demand combined with supplier reductions in utilization narrowed the TFT LCD surplus.
According to Display Search, Korean suppliers LG-Philips LCD and Samsung Electronics take the lead in revenue, mostly due to the fact that they manufacture larger (and there fore more expensive) panel sizes. In fact, while Taiwanese suppliers account for 49 percent of all large LCD units but captured only 43 percent of revenues in Q3’06.
