Dealer Data: Plasma Rebounds in Third Quarter
Plasma panel shipments rebounded in the third quarter after declining for most of the year, according to a survey released this week by the research firm DisplaySearch, which is affiliated with NPD Group.
According to the Quarterly Plasma Module and TV Shipment and Forecast Report, 3.1 million plasma-panel TVs were shipped in the quarter, a new record. The record was attributed to the increased availability of 1080p panels, the growing popularity of larger TVs, increased cost-competitiveness with LCD in the 42” category, and looser supply.
In terms of supplier market share, Matushita continues to lead with 32.7 percent of the market, with Samsung SDI second with 28.8 percent and LGE third with 27.3 percent. While the top three remains unchanged from Q2, Samsung has closed much of the gap.
