Dealer Data: Plasma Shipments Flat
Worldwide shipments of plasma display panel TVs were flat in the second quarter compared with the first, while Panasonic parent company Matsushita reclaimed the top spot in global market share.
That’s according to the Plasma and LCD TV Panel Shipment Module of the Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report, released last week by the research firm DisplaySearch. The survey found that while shipments stayed flat- rising only one percent over the previous quarter- shipments of 1080p resolution models was strong, especially in larger size categories.
In terms of market share, Matsushita used the strength of its 1080p segment to capture the number one spot with 36.8 percent; Samsung SDI, which had taken the top spot the previous quarter, fell to second with 31 percent, followed by LGE with 24. No other company held more than five percent of the market.
