Dealer Data: TV Sales Surge on Smaller Models
The sluggish economy in the U.S. had a two-pronged effect on North American TV shipments in the second quarter: Consumers bought more TVs, but they were more likely to choose smaller ones.
That’s according to the Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report, released Friday by research firm DisplaySearch. The study found that overall TV shipments jumped 28 percent over the same period last year, with sales of LCD panels jumping 52 percent.
These sales were largely buoyed by strong performance in the 19”, 22” and 32” size segments. In addition, plasma display sales jumped 34 percent over the same period last year.
