Dealer Data: Video Server Market Revenues to Reach $1.5 Billion in Five Years
The worldwide market for video servers is growing to the point where it will likely reach $1.5 billion in revenue by 2013. That’s according to a study released this week by ABI Research.
The survey, called the Video Server Market Analysis, calls video-on-demand “the killer application that transformed television from a mere delivery device to a platform offering interactive services to the viewer.” This has led to the rise of the video server, which ABI sees growing speedily in the next several years.
“Cable, broadcast and telco TV are all highly competitive markets for video servers,” ABI analyst Zippy Aima said as part of the survey’s announcement. “Cable and broadcast are the more traditional modes of entertainment for consumers, but cable providers and telcos have been quicker to adapt to market trends and to offer innovative consumer services.” ABI sees the telephone company market reaching a compound annual growth rate of 28 percent per year, cable at 13.5 percent and broadcast at 8 percent.
