Within three short years, global annual revenue from mobile TV and mobile video on demand (VoD) could jump almost 800 percent, to $18 billion, over this year’s total, according to a new report from Understanding & Solutions.
That $18 billion excludes revenue from advertising, sponsorship and added interactive services, said Alison Casey, business director of content & services at U&S.
Last year, several events generated interest in mobile TV, particularly the FIFA World Cup in July. 3 Italia’s WalkTV, however, was the only major Mobile TV launch using broadcast technology, although a number of smaller-scale services launched, including Debitel in Germany and Virgin Mobile in the U.K., U&S reported.
