“The new store is already beating the others,” he said. “It’s all about getting into areas where people have a buck to spend.”
The general housing market in Memphis is tough, Harlow said, but inventory in some areas is starting to move, which has prompted builders to begin constructing some new, higher-end homes.
“We’re not doing the $20,000 deals that we used to, but we’re still selling a lot of TVs with surround sound,” he said. “There is a slowdown, but people are still buying TVs. We’re just not catering to the Wal-Mart customer.”
