Buying Power: HES Urges Dealers to Embrace New Technologies
Home Entertainment Source's 2011 initiatives include the debut of Connected Source, a store-within-a-store display solution.
"It's a turnkey concept for HES members so they can display and demo the latest technologies in a showroom…at low cost," Jim Ristow, HES executive vice president said at the recent BrandSource Spring Summit in Orlando.
BrandSource executives also urged members to search for and leverage opportunities in mobile and connected technologies. Ristow said about 200 million smartphones sold since 2008, with 2011 sales to exceed PC sales. Sales of tablets, which reached 17 million units last year, will more than double this year, he said. Between tablets and smartphones, there are more than 250 million potential customers in the U.S. who want to be connected, but just 2% of them are using their devices for control, he added. "It's time to ride the new wave" of connectivity," Ristow said. "This whole balloon is about to take off, and you should embrace it."
