Name: Alex Qi
Job Title: Co-Founder/CEO
Years in the Industry: 2
Major Accomplishments that you’re proud of: All my accomplishments are a result of the fantastic team we have a Mercku. In the past year, we are most proud of the M2 mesh Wi-Fi system that sold to over 45 countries and won numerous awards. We are also excited to unveil a new product launching this year that will be a game changer!
What do you like best about your job?: Working with cutting-edge technology. It's an honor to work with some of the most advanced products on the market and deliver value for our customers.
What do you like least about your job?: Travel; flying across time zones can be draining.
Favorite hobby: Spending time with loved ones - it's not easy squeezing time into otherwise busy schedules.
Last book you read: Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan
Who is your hero and why?: Fred Yu—my old boss, mentor, and investor. He works harder than anyone I know, is extremely empathetic, and does it all with a smile on his face.
Favorite consumer tech device: Apart from Mercku products, I love the old iPods. An entire device controlled by a wheel, ingenious!
What you’d be doing if you weren’t in tech: Somehow involved in sports—those Toronto teams need help!
What’s the biggest problem the industry faces today, and how would you fix it?: Education. There are so many eager and smart consumers, but the information in this industry is not consistent and transparent. It's hard for consumers to buy the right products. It's time to open up the black box and educate consumers properly on exactly what they need for better connectivity.
What’s your outlook for the CE industry for the next five years?: The CE industry's future is so bright. User experience is at the forefront of consumer needs, something that lacked even a few years ago. Companies today prioritize user experience above all else, leading to smarter, simpler and more intuitive designs.
