Name: Ashley Fulk
Job Title: Corporate Attorney & Director of Human Resources
Company: Petra Industries, LLC
Years in the Industry: 6
Major Accomplishments that you’re proud of: Building consistency from both the legal perspective in our standard documents and from the human resources perspective with policies. Consistency creates understanding and reliability. Both attributes that build reputations and foster employee engagement.
What do you like best about your job?: The variety of work that I encounter, each day is always very different and never the same. I could be negotiating a contract for a potential supplier one minute and then counseling a manger on how to address attendance issues with an employee. My job is never boring or mundane and that is what I love about it!
What do you like least about your job?: I don’t have a least favorite thing about my job, but I will say the biggest challenge to my job is wearing the multiple hats at one time.
Favorite hobby: I enjoy running half-marathons; 13.1 miles is a great way to disconnect from work. My goal in the next few years is run a half in a foreign country, preferably somewhere in Europe.
Last book you read: Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann and Boomtown by Sam Anderson.
Who is your hero and why?: My parents are my biggest heroes. When I was young my mom worked outside the home while my Dad attended college at Oklahoma State University. For the time, these were very non-traditional roles. Watching my parents be cheerleaders for one another in their individual careers and always finding a way to “make it work” with family commitments has encouraged me to never question a pursuit of success and to be confident in my abilities.
Favorite consumer tech device: As a highly caffeinated and easily distracted individual, I love my Ember mug! I find that I often pour myself a cup of coffee and inevitably get pulled away from my desk. With the Ember mug I can return to my desk and still enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee.
What you’d be doing if you weren’t in tech: I really enjoy in-house counsel work. If I was not working in consumer electronics/distribution, I see myself working for a large retailer in the same capacity.
What’s your outlook for the CE industry for the next five years?: Convenience- this is why the CE industry will get healthier and thrive during the next five years. Just look at the enormous number of products that afford people time-savings and the ability to multi-task. You don’t have to vacuum your floors any more, a robot can do that. You can ask a virtual assistant to do just about everything – set calendar appointments, call Mom, turn your lights on/off, even place a grocery order for delivery. This convenience is why I see the CE Industry not just getting healthier, but thriving over the next five years.
