Name: Michael Sorrentino
Job Title: Inventor and CEO
Company: EyePatch Case
Years in the Industry: 6
Major Accomplishments that you’re proud of: We started from nothing and built a well-known brand in the accessories space. We've been able to compete in a very tough industry and see significant year-over-year growth.
What do you like best about your job?: I love every opportunity to connect with customers and clients. We are not about a product, but the people we serve.
What do you like least about your job?: Sometimes, it can be very lonely in a startup. As the sole owner, all of the pressure and decisions fall on me.
Favorite hobby: Spending time with my wife and daughter, we can be anywhere doing anything and it's all I need to be happy.
Last book you read: Train, by Tom Zoellner
Who is your hero and why?: Currently, I'm really into Gary Vaynerchuk—he's smart, witty, and inspirational. His podcast gives me a jolt of energy every morning.
Favorite consumer tech device: My reMarkable tablet. It's a single-use device and is a seamless writing tool. It feels like I'm writing on paper but with no mess. It does one thing and does it well, just like the EyePatch Case.
What you’d be doing if you weren’t in tech: I also happen to run a successful video production company. These two businesses grow hand in hand. My storytelling skills help market EyePatch Case.
What’s the biggest problem the industry faces today, and how would you fix it?: As Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning continue to become a larger part of the lives of every human on the planet, we need to respect privacy and boundaries. The potential is wonderful, we just need to give consumers the ability to shut it off once in a while (hence, the EyePatch Case) - that's how we're doing our part.
What’s your outlook for the CE industry for the next five years?: Everything is becoming a smart device, and I love it. Just go to CES every year, and you'll always leave inspired and excited for the future of CE.
