Let’s be honest for a minute. Life as a video game manufacturer and as a retailer hasn’t been easy over the past decade or so as mobile gaming—and the modern, always-on-the-go lifestyle—continue to eat away at the console platform market. Recent data from Statista shows that slightly more than 40 million units were sold in 2015, a solid number no doubt. But that’s barely half the number of total units sold just a handful of years ago.
Something somewhere’s gotta give, right?
Yet, here we are as yet another E3 Expo gets underway out at the Los Angeles Convention Center this week. What is the video game industry doing to combat these trends? Are they concerned about them? Will they try to tap into these new and emerging markets as they look to stave off elimination?
