DEG: 52 Million Homes Will Have HDTV by Next Year
With the DTV transition approaching, as many as 52 million U.S. households will have HDTV by the end of the year, according to Digital Entertainment Group numbers cited by the Hollywood Reporter.
The DEG also found that 30 million households currently have at least one HDTV, and 4.5 million were sold this year through the end of June (up 50 percent from last year.) If the number reaches 52 million as project, it will bring the HDTV household penetration rate to 36 percent.
The Digital Entertainment Group is a consortium of movie studios and hardware and software companies dedicated to support of the DVD format.
