As Apple wraps up their keynote on a handful of refreshed iPhone X's, the moment heralds the end of the iPhone 6 production and, less ceremoniously, the end of the headphone jack in their ecosystem. Apple has been a few versions without the headphone jack, Google Pixel hilariously dropped it just one short year after making fun of the iPhone, and now Android sweetheart OnePlus is dropping it from their new flagship, the 6T.
Their reasoning is pretty on the nose, as founder Carl Pei said it was "the right time":
We found 59% of our community already owned wireless headphones earlier this year - and that was before we launched our Bullets Wireless headphones.
We're not doing it for the sake of doing it and because everyone else is. We believe now is the right time, as it'll benefit the majority of our users while keeping the downside low.
