Digital Gift Cards Can Benefit Retailers (and Consumers) Throughout the Year
Christmas is literally just hours away, and yet many consumers still have some shopping that they need to finish up. We already know that gift cards tend to be one of the hottest-selling items as time winds down for shoppers—and a recent National Retail Federation study pointed out that gift cards have been the most requested holiday item for the past nine years.
But here’s something to consider: According to Urban Airship, a mobile engagement platform, retailers (and consumers) have literally been leaving billions of dollars on the table with the old-fashioned plastic gift card.
In a new inforgraphic that the company put together using its own data as well as data from NRF, CEB/TowerGroup, Moneris, and other sources, Urban Airship did point to several benefits of gift cards. But it also highlighted some of the major opportunities retailers have in front of them—namely, the possibilities with regards to digital gift cards that are mobile wallet friendly.
