Digital Gift Cards Can Benefit Retailers (and Consumers) Throughout the Year
Using the data that it culled together and combining it with its own research, Urban Airship said that retailers could realize an additional $2.29 billion (with a B) in plastic expense and unused card balances by transitioning to mobile wallet gift cards.
And beyond the recovered revenue, mobile wallet gift cards enable the retailer to continue the conversation throughout the year by offering personalized engagement, from loyalty offers, reminders about expiring discounts and sales, sneak peeks at upcoming offers, and so on.
“In the future, mobile wallets are poised to have a broader impact on how consumers interact with their favorite retailers than potentially apps and the mobile web combined," Judy Chan, senior product marketing manager at Urban Airship, said in an emailed statement to Dealerscope. "Both the barriers of entry and adoption for mobile wallets are extremely low, as businesses can create and distribute gift cards, loyalty cards, coupons, and more, through any digital channel. With location-based reminders and real-time, personalized updates to wallet passes, including new promotions, incentives, and balance reminders, businesses can address the customer journey across channels through the one screen they are never without."
