DisplaySearch Questions Sony OLED Life
Sony’s next-generation XEL-1 TV, which utilizes OLED technology, may have a display life only a little more than half as long as the company says, according to a test conducted recently by DisplaySearch, the AP reported Friday.
The test entailed DisplaySearch, a research firm, running two of the units for 1,000 hours and measuring brightness levels. They concluded that the display would last for 17,000 hours- considerably less than the 30,000-hour figure touted by Sony.
When asked by the AP, a Sony spokesman stood by the 30,000-hour number, saying it was based on “years of tests.”
