DIY Window Automation Gadget FlipFlic in Home Stretch of Kickstarter Campaign
Meet FlipFlic, a really unique product developed by Jalousier, Inc., that can turn your ordinary blinds into “smart blinds” in a matter of seconds without needing any tools. The product was launched on Kickstarter earlier this year and is in the home stretch of its campaign.
So far, the company has nearly doubled its goal of $50,000. As of this posting, they’re a touch over $89,000 with three days to go (the campaign ends on Friday, May 13th). The makers of FlipFlic say the product is the first plug-and-play solution that allows homeowners to transform many ordinary window blinds into a smart home appliance, saving the user “time, money, and [making their] home more comfortable and energy-efficient.”
FlipFlip is solar powered and simple to install, the company explained on the Kickstarter page. The installation process is detailed in three steps: 1) The user sticks the solar panel onto the window glass; 2) they then detach the existing tilting wand that they would typically use to adjust the blinds manually; and 3) snap the FlipFlic on the remaining piece of the tilter where the wand used to be. And that’s it. Then, to control the product, the user downloads the free FlipFlic app, which is currently only available for iOS devices (Android is coming soon, according to the makers of FlipFlic). Through the app they can program the automatic settings for the blinds, open and close them, or let FlipFlic control the blinds through its light and temperature sensors.
