Connected TV Shipments Surge
Connected TVs, or those featuring Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) capability, are surging in sales, comprising 19 percent of flat panel TV shipments and 55 percent of TVs overall in North America, Europe and Asia. That's according to numbers released Tuesday by research firm DisplaySearch.
That growth, according to DisplaySearch's Quarterly TV Design and Features Report, will jump from 45 million this year to 119 million in 2014.
“We have seen DLNA as a solution in search of a problem for a long while, but with the surge in media streaming, the technology has found its place—creating business opportunities for TV set makers, broadcasters and retailers,” Paul Gray, Director of TV Electronics Research for DisplaySearch, said in a statement.
