Do You Talk Up or Down?
By David Dritsas
There's a lot to learn from a crowd of people who know nothing about CE. I was recently invited to be a guest speaker at a Commercial Law League of America (CLLA) conference. They brought me in to talk about cool and upcoming consumer technology for lawyers. My session, "Gear for the Tech-Head" was meant to be a break from two days worth of somewhat drier material. I came out of it with a different perspective on how we as an industry treat those who are not in it.
I've presented at conferences before, but these weren't industry folks, so I had steer clear of acronyms, like saying digital video recorder instead of D-V-R, and spend the time explaining what the "i" in 1080i meant. It was kind of fun, actually. Being around tech all of the time, it's easy to lose sight of how fascinating and exciting this industry is, especially from the press perspective.
