Don’t Even Think About Network Hack, Apple Warns
iPhone users should not hack their phones in attempting to use them on non-AT&T wireless networks, because doing so could make the device “permanently inoperable.” That’s the word from Apple, which issued the warning in a strongly worded statement, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
According to Apple, certain “unlocking” programs which allow the phone to be used on unauthorized wireless networks could clash with future software updates, thus breaking the phone. Apple denied, however, that the updates are specifically meant to stymie hackers.
The iPhone’s next official update, which will add the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store to its capabilities, will be released later this week.
