In the past, people interested in buying PCs were somewhat removed from the process. Aside from the fact that processors got faster, there weren't as many exciting catches compared to today, as more cameras are introduced, for example, with more megapixels.
"On the day of PMA, we introduced 70 new cameras and on press released date, we had detail pages for each," Cunningham reveals. He says that where Amazon lucks out is being able to operate from a premise of not having traditional inventory confined to shelf space. Instead, the site can introduce a product even before it hits shelves with preorder and continue selling it long after its shelf life is through once used.
"We have seen enormous growth in the whole digital audio player market," he says. "Certainly Apple has been driving this for us and the industry nationally. The second category is digital cameras and digital SLR. Everyone keeps saying that prices are decreasing, but we're not seeing that. We are selling more SLR."
