Harman Called Favorite to Buy Newsweek
CE industry legend Dr. Sidney Harman, founder of Harman International, is considered the favorite in the competition to purchase Newsweek magazine, the New York Times reported Thursday.
Harman is one of three bidders seeking to buy the weekly from the Washington Post Co., and his bid is seen as "likely to appeal most" to the Graham family, which owns the Post. Harman, according to the Times, would keep the vast majority of the magazine's employees and not substantially change its editorial direction.
The 91-year-old Harman, a Dealerscope Hall of Famer, founded what was then called Harman Kardon in 1952. He retired as Harman International's chairman in 2008.
