Tablet Sales Seen Skyrocketing
Driven by the launch of the Apple iPad and the numerous other products sure to follow, the market for media tablets will reach 7.6 million this year- a total expected to reach over 46 million in 2014. That's according to figures released Thursday by research firm International Data Corporation (IDC).
According to IDC's Worldwide and U.S. Media Tablet 2010-2014 Forecast, growth will be largely driven by third-party apps.
“These are early days for media tablets, an altogether new device category that takes its place between smartphones and portable PCs. IDC expects consumer demand for media tablets to be strongly driven by the number and variety of compatible third-party apps for content and services," IDC's Susan Kevorkian said as part of the announcement.
