With spring upon us, people are spending more time looking out the window, planning the weekend getaways and their outdoor activities. Summer will be here before we know it, and the great migration from home to beach will begin again. This is the season for mobile electronics.
Mobile electronics have always been strong when the weather gets warmer, and has largely been supported by younger buyers than home electronics. However, the ME business is facing a lot of significant challenges these days. The typical youth demographic is no longer buying CD players for their music, because the iPod (and other MP3 players) has become the music format of choice for this generation. For older demographics, mostly parents of young kids, in-vehicle DVD players were a strong draw (as well as being the first time many of these consumers had entered a mobile electronics dealer since they were in college), but inexpensive offers of factory installed DVD players has severely cut into that.
