In a major milestone for the adoption of digital television, the Consumer Electronics Association said this week that more than 50 percent of households in the U.S. now own digital televisions, according to Broadcasting and Cable.
In a statement by the industry group, CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro expressed pride in the surpassing of the 50 percent barrier.
The milestone comes just over 13 months before analog TV signals are turned off in February of 2009. This week, the AP reported,$40 government-issued coupons for digital converter boxes became available. Those interested can visit www.dtv2009.org
