Selling Blu-Ray: It's Not All About Price
It can be painful for dealers to match pricing with Best Buy or online deals from Amazon. The good news is - based on sales trends - you might not have to. Instead of whittling away your margin to offer the lowest price on a BD player, consider promoting your assortment with blockbuster titles to capture sales, especially during the holiday season. The concept that movies will sell the players has already been proven.
In this market dominated by the quest for value and convenience, consumers may spring for a turnkey Blu-Ray player/movie bundle. Some consumers may be waiting for a favorite movie to be released on Blu-Ray before buying. Others may like the all-in-one idea of a player and several movies.
The months ahead will afford dealers ample opportunity to promote BD players in conjunction with hit movie releases on Blu-Ray. Most recently, special editions of "Gladiator" and "Braveheart" were released in BD format. This fall, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," "Star Trek" and "Up" Blu-Ray editions will hit the shelves.
