Kevin Kelly, president and COO of the distributor Stampede, spoke to Dealerscope on the heels of his company’s announcement of the introduction of the Drone Video Systems AV category, which combines drone hardware with tailored software and add-ons to equip pro AV dealers with customized drone solutions and training and technical supports for commercial market applications. He also spoke about the rise and growth of the consumer drone market, and its implications for CE dealers.
Dealerscope: On the Drone Video Systems announcement by Stampede, what are the bottom-line benefits of offering customized solutions plus consulting services like that? Is the main idea to make the drone category an easy step to get into for pro AV dealers, or consumer dealers who also do some pro business?
Kevin Kelly: It’s important to remember that we’re creating a category for the industry with the Drone Video Systems initiative. We’re bringing together all the components so that an integrator can easily build out a solution for the end user. If you look at what end users want to accomplish and start with that, and understand what they’re trying to do, then you can work through the decisions that have to be made to recommend a solution. [Applications] could be as far-reaching and wide as search and rescue, to first responders, to protection of animals in the wild.
