Recalls For Everyone!
Keep in mind that the top 20 media markets accounted for around 40 percent of the U.S. population, if not more. But our amp sales in these markets represented, by my estimate, 0.0002 percent of the total population. Nonetheless, our attorneys said we were required by the NHTSA to run all of this recall advertising.
What really confused the legal folks was how gleefully I ran these ads. They had no clue. Initially, of course, it was tough, but in no time at all we were actually improving our market share numbers in amplifiers. The relationship we had with our dealers grew even stronger as we handled the issue responsibly and proactively on their behalf.
With this in mind, and since we cannot legislate digital tuners for all radios, I propose that all car audio manufacturers announce an immediate recall of their car radios, on account of their inability to receive HD or satellite radio signals.
