Repurpose for Revenue Growth
The time has arrived to stop slashing this and cutting that and begin shifting your focus to top-line revenue. Economically, for poor in this country, there doesn't appear to be much hope for immediate improvement nor, as I see it, much hope for the next few years. At least not until we get the "boot of government off our necks" (see any of U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar's recent comments regarding BP to get my drift).
(For those of you who now want to comment on my political views, please feel free do so, but have the courage to actually use your name instead of some comedic nom de plume.)
Is it possible to cut so much fat from the bone that you actually lose the flavor of your work? In a recent Gartner survey of CIOs across the country, Fortune magazine found the focus today is now on revenue growth over cost cutting for the rest of this year. One way in which companies are doing this is by outsourcing generic and mundane operations and investing savings into (are you ready?) people! Companies have begun to refocus on sales and marketing in their latest effort to seek profit and shareholder equity.
