Seems not so long ago, I was sitting in my palatial offices at corporate headquarters getting calls from our customers who would complain about some unauthorized shipping of our products into their area. The complaints focused on grey market goods or transshipping by other dealers or distributors that were "authorized."
When I speak with folks in the consumer electronics community today, I hear much about fair trade and how we should have fair trade with Colombia and other parts of the world. Fair trade is a wonderful, feel-good topic that many espouse-except when it interferes with their personal business practices.
We have any number of trade agreements with various "partners" around the world, as you know. Can you identify for me any of those where the trade equity is beneficial to both partners? How many GM or Ford dealers will you find in Japan? How about countries that manipulate their currency to their trade advantage?
