Economy & Jobs Survey Results
There were also a few interesting write-in responses to question #1, including a proposal to legalize cannabis so it can be taxed at the same level as alcohol and tobacco. Interesting idea, to say the least, but one would then have to wonder, if this proposal were adopted, might we have a situation where many job applicants fail employer-administered drug tests? I'm just thinking out loud.
Another reader suggested President Obama resign and stop talking altogether. Perhaps this response was from the same fellow who offered the cannabis response- did both ideas arise during the same mellow brownie break? I'll let you judge for yourself.
On the question of the second most important idea for stimulating the economy, the survey respondents told us to open credit markets to small business. This is a curious position for me. I have had the opportunity to speak with a number of credit lenders and small bank loan officers recently. While they tell me that they have money to lend, I am also told that many small business applicants do not qualify under the more rigid loan regulations they have to deal with. This becomes a chasing-your-tail exercise.
