Examining The "Walmart Effect"
Placing a flat screen TV, a Blu-ray DVD player and a pair of speakers in a shopping cart, and then claiming that is fulfilling a solution, does not make one a home theater specialist.
Jeff also mentioned he wouldn't be surprised if Walmart, somewhere down the line, came up with plans to integrate iPads into home automation solutions; another example of how the retailer could encroach into areas that should be owned by the specialty dealer. When I was at Pioneer, I actually fought introducing new technology through Walmart. Technology must be understood and explained to the consumer. For the most part, consumers have no idea what new technologies are available unless they are marketed to or told directly.
